Meaningful Therapies and Treatments
Dialysis
Hemodialysis (HD)
Hemodialysis is a treatment that helps your kidneys function when your kidneys can no longer function properly on their own. Needing dialysis typically occurs when you develop end stage kidney failure- usually having only 10 to 15% of kidney function and a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of less than 15.
Dialysis can keep your body in balance by removing waste, salt and extra water while keeping a safe level of chemicals in your blood including potassium, sodium and biocardonate and help control blood pressure.
Comprehensive Kidney Care offers on-site dialysis services available for patients at each of our branch locations.
Home Dialysis or Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
Peritoneal dialysis occurs when your blood is cleaned inside your body, not outside as with hemodialysis. Patients must have a minor operation to place a catheter in their abdomen for access. During the treatment, the abdominal area (called the peritoneal cavity) is slowly filled with dialysate (dialysis fluid) through the catheter. The blood stays in the arteries and veins (blood vessels) that line the peritoneal cavity. Extra fluid and waste products are drawn out of the blood and into the dialysate. Peritoneal Dialysis can offer more flexibility and independence in a person’s life versus traditional Hemodialysis.
There are many benefits of Peritoneal Dialysis (PD), instead of traditional Hemodialysis, that our team at Comprehensive Kidney Care can discuss with you during your appointment. They must first determine if you qualify as it depends on your current medical condition.
